For everyone who admired Cher’s virtual closet in Clueless, you need to look no further than Stylebook to make that closet an even better reality. I have been a dedicated Stylebook user for over a decade, and wanted to share why it’s so helpful for trip planning. The app makes it so easy to manage your travel wardrobe, and makes packing a breeze.
Stylebook Overview
For those of you new to Stylebook, it’s an app that serves as a virtual closet. You can upload all of your clothing, shoes, jewelry, etc. to track what you own, wear and pack. You can organize by item category, and the app will automatically create stats like color, brand and price based on the items you enter into your virtual closet.
You can also create virtual outfits using what you own, shop, and look for fashion inspiration through the app. As somebody who has been in the data and technology space for over a decade, I love it for making informed decisions about what I purchase, purge, and even use it to justify my Rent the Runway subscription since renting is cheaper than owning for a lot of items.
Stylebook for Travel Packing
Stylebook enables you to create packing lists and outfits for your travels. I use it to virtually pack for both work and fun trips. I will use it to select the clothes, shoes, jewelry and purses I want to take on a trip. This enables me to think about what I may need to rent or purchase for my destination prior to my travel, and if I ever have a lost or stolen bag it’s an easy way to file an insurance form with specifics on cost of item, brand, etc.
For work travel, Stylebook has two benefits. First, back when I was a road worrier and had to wear a matching suit to every customer meeting, I would make a note on each blazer I wore of the date and customer so that I would not repeat blazers two visits in a row. Small details, but matching suits are expensive, so I only had a few– and I did not want it to show.
At my last job (RIP to that company) I worked with some incredible women, and I would use my virtual packing list as a way to share in our Slack channel what I was wearing to our team meetings, sales kick off etc. as a way to coordinate with the ladies on the team on how fancy or casual we would be. Sounds silly, but with a virtual team of women in a male dominated company, it was a fun way to connect before seeing everyone in person.
The one thing I wish Stylebook would offer for the packing lists is a way to track what you packed and did not wear on a trip. This would help you more easily note what not to pack on future trips. You are able to copy packing lists on Stylebook and rename them for future trips, so making it easy to determine what not to pack again would be super helpful. You can manually do this by copying over the list while packing and deleting the clean clothes left in your suitcase, but it would be awesome for there to be an easy way to do this too.
Overall, Stylebook makes it very easy to back for all kinds of travel. If you use a storage unit, or attic to store out of season items, it’s also a fabulous way to track what you own but may be out of sight and out of mind when thinking about packing for winter travel to warm locations.
